Nestled amidst the picturesque landscapes of West Cumbria, Dent Forest offers a serene escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. This hidden gem, managed by the Woodland Trust, boasts a diverse range of habitats and stunning scenery, making it a popular destination for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts.
Dent Forest covers an area of 1266 acres. The wood provides an important habitat for nesting and migratory birds including the Nightingale, Chiffchaff and Spotted Flycatcher. The forest is located on a fell, bearing the same name.
Up to 27 species of butterfly have been recorded in the area managed by the Woodland Trust and there are populations of Green Hairstreak, Grizzled Skipper and the scarce Duke of Burgundy.
The woodland also provides a habitat for mammals including the Dormouse (Muscardinus avellanarius) and reptiles such as Common Lizard and Adder. There are also populations of Fallow Deer and Roe Deer.
Certainly no Nightingales in Dent Forest, they are found mostly in the south of the country
