West Cumbrian tourism businesses invited to special breakfast briefing

Tourism businesses from across west Cumbria are being invited to a virtual breakfast briefing where they can hear specialist advice and receive the latest updates from the sector.

Allerdale Borough Council has hosted a number of the popular briefings over the last few years and is now teaming up with Copeland Borough Council to deliver the latest session on Friday, February 12.

The briefing will be an opportunity to hear from key speakers, including Cumbria Tourism’s Chief Executive Gill Haigh, and learn more about the various Covid-19 grants on offer to support businesses.

There’ll also be a chance to learn more about the planning considerations for motorhome and campervan sites, receive updates on the latest tourism initiatives in both Allerdale and Copeland and have the chance to take part in a question-and-answer session.

Alongside these presentations, those who attend will also hear from Cllr John Cook, Allerdale’s executive member for leisure and tourism, and Cllr Steve Morgan, Copeland’s portfolio holder for commercial services about how the two authorities are working collaboratively on tourism development.

Cllr Cook said: “With the pandemic showing no signs of ending quickly it’s vital that businesses in our fantastic tourism sector get all the support they need to help them through these challenging times. This briefing will showcase the work we’re doing alongside Copeland and other partners to help the industry bounce back and I’d encourage anyone involved in the visitor economy in west Cumbria to come along.”

Cllr Morgan said: “We are doing a great deal of work – alongside Allerdale Borough Council, Cumbria Tourism and other partners – to support our tourism businesses during these challenging times.

“We’re pleased to take this opportunity to showcase our excellent joint working, and to highlight to the local tourism industry the level of support that is available. Copeland – and west Cumbria – is a fabulous place to visit, and by working together we can get the message out to attract and welcome visitors back when the time is right.”

Over the last three years Allerdale Borough Council has held regular breakfast briefings at different locations in the area however, due to the pandemic the meetings are now happening virtually.

Any business wanting to attend should sign-up via rebrand.ly/tourismbriefing. The briefing will start at 8.30am.
