Yesterday, at 20:40 appliances from Carlisle East, Carlisle West and Longtown were mobilised to a call at the Cumberland Infirmary.
A spokesperson from Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service said:
"Upon arrival crews found the sprinkler system had been activated on a hospital ward causing extensive flooding to one, four bed room.
"Prompt action from ward staff stopped extensive water damage to the rest of the ward.
"Fire crews in conjunction with hospital staff worked hard for approximately one hour to remove the water damage from the area and the incident reached a successful conclusion with all crews coming away from the scene at 22:00 hours."
