Two men have been jailed for over seven years following convenience store robbery.
Mark Huddart, 29, of Bowness Court, Workington and Brian Holliday, 34 of Harrington Road, Workington were sentenced today (Jan 22) at Carlisle Crown Court for robbery.
Both men pleaded guilty. Huddart was jailed for three years nine months and Holliday for four years one month.
The robbery occurred on 4th November at 7:55am at McColls on Harrington Road Workington.
Huddart and Holliday entered the store carrying an axe and crowbar visibly.
The pair demanded for the employee to open the till, once opened Huddart emptied the till while Holliday went behind the till and took a quantity of tobacco.
They both then left the store.
Officers located Huddart at around 8:40am at Holiday’s home address on Harrington Road claiming to be waiting for him to retrieve a mobile phone. Huddart was wearing a green khaki hoody similar to what was worn by the robber. Holiday was found was also searched and found with £90 cash and a packet of tobacco with a serial number linking it to McColls.
Located near the convenience was a cream satchel in the satchel was clothes described as being worn by the robber and 6 packets of Tobacco. It was found earlier that day Holliday had left the property with Huddart wearing a similar bag.
Following searches of the area officers also located an axe and crowbar described to the police by witnesses.
A police spokesperson said: “This was a terrifying ordeal for the employee and witnesses and thankfully no one was injured.
“I would like to thank those that came forward as witnesses during this investigation as their evidence was crucial in bringing both men to justice.
