SHARE:

Police are investigating an incident of fraud that took place in the afternoon of Saturday 24th October in the Scotby area of Carlisle.

A man purporting to be a police officer from London has contacted the victim stating they are investigating counterfeit currency being passed by bank tellers.

The man has persuaded the victim to withdraw money from their bank account, once withdrawn asking the victim to read the serial numbers before confirming that they are counterfeit, and that they would need to come and collect the money as evidence.

The man is described as in his early 30s, mixed race, 5ft 9ins to 6ft of a slim build and was in the vicinity of the post office on Scotby Road on Saturday 24th October mid to late afternoon.

Police are appealing for anyone who may have seen this man or have CCTV or dashcam that covers Scotby Road to contact officers on 101 quoting log 186 of 26th October 2020.
