Local Workers Shine Bright At National Awards for Fourth Consecutive Year

After months of being sworn to secrecy, TSP Engineering of Workington have announced three members of their team have been named in The Manufacturer Top 100 for 2020.

TSP Engineering started nominating their talented team back in 2016, and since then have had one or more individual named every year. This year brings the total number of employees being named in The Manufacturer Top 100 to 10, evidencing the calibre people in the TSP team.

The Manufacturer Top 100 recognises those who have made outstanding achievements in the manufacturing world. Nominations are open to The Manufacturer’s 158K audience and the wider industrial community – meaning only the best of the best make the final list. Judging takes place in the form of an array of industry experts and leaders of academic institutions. This year is the seventh year of the prestigious nationwide awards, recognising those who stand out for their contribution to changing the face of industry.

John Coughlan, CEO of TSP Engineering, stated “I am really proud of all this years TSP Engineering Top 100 Award winners. This is the fourth consecutive year that TSP Engineering have had employees named in the UK Manufacturing Top 100 which shows the calibre of individuals we have working and supporting our client’s contracts”

This year’s successors are Andrew Sands (IT Infrastructure & Services Manager & Business Security Officer), Mike Ames (Head of Technical) and Mohammad Hossain (EC&I Engineering Lead) – all of whom work for the specialist manufacturer, TSP Engineering. All three individuals work across different departments and were nominated for unique reasons, you can read a little more on their journeys below:

A Little Bit About Andrew:
“I’ve always had a passion and interest in IT since finding myself in a junior position in the IT Department when I started my journey as a 17-year-old YTS Apprentice in Business Administration. When taking the role of IT Infrastructure & Services Manager at TSP Engineering, my challenge was simple – turn around an IT Department with a reputation of being the worst, underperforming Department in the business. Game on!

"My vision was to turn the IT Department into a respected, professionally ran team who provide consistently high levels of service, by doing what we say we are going to do, in the timeframe we say we will, without any hidden agendas to a consistent high standard. In a world where Cybercrime is a growing threat, where there is constant demand for reducing costs and downtime vs improving efficiency and implementing remote working solutions – why would anyone want to work in IT. The answer is quite simple – the unknown – no two days are the same!”

A Little Bit About Mike:
“Not being from the area, I planned on working in Workington for a couple of years as a trainee metallurgist, before continuing north to the Oil Rigs. My plans soon changed as I rapidly realised I had joined a company in which I could see a complete project from cradle to grave – from initial discussions with customer, through design and manufacture, testing, installation and into production (in some cases feedback to improve future designs too).

"I soon qualified as a chartered engineer with the then institute of Metals (now IOM3) whilst training as a welding engineer in parallel, and set my stall out to be Technical Manager by time I was 30, (which I just missed at 31). I am now privileged to be part of an energetic senior team, but as Head of Technical am still able to get involved with my engineering and technical first love.”

A Little Bit About Mohammad:
“In 2008, at the age of 17 I travelled to the UK from Bangladesh with the sole aim of achieving a degree in electrical engineering. Following my graduation from the University of Greenwich, I secured a graduate engineering role with Tata Steel Europe, which in 2016 transitioned across to TSP Engineering. After a variety of engineering and manufacturing roles in the steelmaking, rail, building services and nuclear for the business, I took up the EC&I Engineering Lead role in TSP Engineering at the age of 25.

"I’m currently leading a project to manufacture multiple control panels and remote handling junction boxes for the ‘ESS’ site in Sweden, which once built, will be one of the largest science and technology research facilities in the world. This project has proved to be extremely challenging, both in terms of capability and delivery, a situation that has been further complicated by supply chain delays during the on-going Covid-19 pandemic. Again, I’ve been very proud of the work and delivery deadlines that my team has continued to meet.”

The three successful employees, alongside CEO John Coughlan, attended the annual celebration on Wednesday 11th November in the form of a virtual event, where they could network with others and be crowned with their official status.
