Emergency Services were called to Egremont earlier today (17th November), after reports suggested a man had entered the raging waters of the River Ehen.
Water rescue specialists from Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service were seen scouring the water near the Tarpot Skatepark.
Numerous officers from Cumbria Police were also in attendance, carrying out a land based search.
Sources on the ground say that a BMW car had been stolen, and a pursuit ensued.
A man who wishes to remain anonymous said: "There were seven fire appliances and god knows how many police on the scene. I've never seen so many emergency services in one place before."
A 38-year-old man from Egremont left the water of his own accord, and was subsequently arrested. He is said to be safe and well.
