Rebecca Weston, the Chief Operating Officer at Sellafield has said that there has been a rise in a small number of positive Covid-19 cases at the Test and Trace facility at Sellafield.
Yesterday (7th October), testing confirmed a further seven positive cases.
Rebecca said: "All of the individuals have been notified and their details provided to Public Health England for further contact tracing which will support the contact tracing work carried by our own on-site team.
"As the infection rate continues to rise across the country and the region, further positive cases will continue to be identified.
"With all of our plans and in all of our thinking, we have planned for the likelihood of a re-escalation of COVID-19.
"We know that the rising rate of infection is a concern for everyone at home and at work. This is why we are committed to:
- closely monitoring the COVID-19 threat
working closely with our partners in the NHS and local authorities to understand the changing local and regional context.
- reviewing our own resilience in terms of employee availability and enacting plans as required by the situation.
- regularly reviewing the effectiveness of our Enterprise Risk Assessment.
"Colleagues are encouraged to continue to attend their place of work if they are required to do so, to follow the Enterprise Risk Assessment in the workplace and to continue to observe the Public Health England guidelines for protection against COVID-19 at home and work.
"In light of these positively identified cases, we know some people may have questions and concerns. Please raise any concerns you may have, via your line manager or the COVID19 inbox covid19@sellafieldsites.com
