Enforcement Officers from Copeland Borough Council are currently investigating a fly-tip at Birks Road, Cleator Moor. A mattress, carpet, sofa and chair were dumped in an alleyway.
This latest fly-tip comes on the back of a number of incidents in recent months, with council teams clearing furniture and rubbish from the rear of High Street, the Allotments site and Big Hill.
A spokesperson from Copeland Council said:
"Our Waste Officers have had to clear this away at a cost to tax payers. If anyone has any information on who is responsible for this offence, please contact us on 01946 598300 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
"There is no excuse for fly-tipping. Cumbria County Council's Household Waste Recycling Centres are open.
"If you cannot dispose of your bulky/household items yourself, Copeland Council offers a doorstep collection service.
"We can issue a fixed penalty notice of £250 for those caught fly-tipping. We can also prosecute more serious cases which is punishable by a fine of up to £50,000 or 12 months’ imprisonment if convicted in a Magistrates’ Court."
