Workington Academy say that they have a confirmed case of Covid-19 in Year 7 and that all contacts of the pupil have been asked to self isolate.
Des Bird, Headteacher, said:
"Immediately following notification of the test last night, we asked all close contacts of the child to remain at home and self-isolate for 14 days.
"If you have not been contacted by us, or NHS Test and Trace, that means your child did not come into close contact with this student, and therefore can attend school as normal.
"The academy is in contact with Public Health England and following all the latest guidance.
"We have thoroughly planned for the eventuality of a Covid positive test and will do everything possible to ensure the safety and welfare of all our students and staff. We will continue to rigorously apply the latest guidance on controlling the infection risk in school.
"We are aware that information regarding this case was on social media before it was passed to the school. Please be assured that the team here reacted as soon as they were made aware.
