Firefighters took to social media this evening (24 Aug) to ask the owner of a Toyota car to move it to a different location after they found the car was blocking the exit of Whitehaven Fire Station. The car was eventually moved.
A spokesperson from Whitehaven Fire & Rescue Service asked, "Can the owner of the pictured vehicle please pull it forward as it is blocking one the fire station doors?"
The car is thought to belong to a woman who was seen pushing it there, after it had broken down.
Across the County firefighters have had to contend with inconsiderate drivers who are putting lives at risk. In June, Craig Drinkald, Area Manager, Head of Community Safety, Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service, said: “We are asking people to ensure they park in a safe and considerate way that allows access for fire appliances and other emergency vehicles. If you can’t guarantee this then please find a safer alternative place to park.
"Inconsiderate parking can cause unnecessary delays, and lost minutes really can mean the difference between life and death when we are responding to a serious incident. Every road user can help to avoid this by allowing enough room for us to pass.”
