Search and Rescue called out as tidal bore threatened family of ten who were still in the water

Bay Search and Rescue attended Grange over Sands following a report of a family of around ten people potentially cut off by the incoming tidal bore.

A spokesperson said:

"Arriving on scene, it was clear that the family were still in, and around the waters edge as the tides bore passed by, and they were quickly asked to make there way back to the safety of the Promenade.

"Further down the marsh, a couple had set up a tent right on the edge of the marsh grass which was overhanging the channel, they also soon packed up and left avoiding words of advice.

"Please use and appreciate the Bay with respect, the edges of sandbanks and the marsh grass are undermined by the tide and can be very unstable, it is common to see huge chunks of sand and grass falling into the channel, some of these chunks  weigh hundreds of kilos each, so despite falling into the water, you are at risk of being seriously injured or trapped in the water if your stood to close to the edge.

"Thank you to the first informant who gave a very accurate description of these people and there position, extremely valuable information.

"Never hesitate to dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard."
