Cumbria County Council advise that from this Saturday 8th August 2020, it will be mandatory for ALL guests at a ceremony in a registration office or approved venue to wear a face covering (unless exempt for medical reasons).
A spokesperson said:
"Face coverings WILL NOT have to be worn by the bride, groom, civil partners or registration staff (although the officer conducting your ceremony may choose to do so).
"It is still imperative that social distancing is adhered to at all times. Please note that this does not mean we can increase capacity in our registration office ceremony rooms, this is an added precaution to protect you, your guests and our staff.
"Please ensure that your guests are aware of these requirements and come prepared as we will not be able to provide face coverings on site. If any of your guests are exempt from wearing a face covering, please could they make themselves known to the officer on duty when arriving at the ceremony. This is a mandatory requirement so we need your help, please do not put our staff in a difficult position as these rules are there to protect us all and it is important to adhere to them.
