Barrow firefighters have today (1 Aug) attended a fire in the open at North Walney Nature Reserve.
A spokesperson from Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service said:
"Due to the fires location it was extremely difficult to access and assistance was sought from Duddon inshore rescue to help with transporting necessary equipment to the scene.
"An act of pure stupidity and disregard for the environment and it’s wildlife caused a joint agency response and resulted in firefighters being taken away from other life saving emergencies within the area.
