Furness Coastguard were paged today at 14:58 (10th July) to reports of 3 persons on a dinghy in Walney channel which was taking on water.
A spokesperson said:
"Assistance was requested from Barrow Lifeboat and the Vision of Tamworth inshore lifeboat was launched to rescue the group who were safely returned to the lifeboat station.
"The Vision of Tamworth then returned to the dinghy and brought it back to the Coastguard team on shore.
"The 3 persons were handed over the the care of North West Ambulance Service and were given safety advice from the Coastguard.
"With restrictions being lifted nationally and boats not being used as much as they normally would, we are urging all boat owners to check the condition of their boats and safety equipment and ensure they are in good condition before heading out on the water.
"As can be seen in the pictures, this boat was not in a fit state to be afloat.
"A very positive outcome to what could easily have been a very serious incident.
"If in danger around the coast dial #999 and ask for the Coastguard."
