Firefighters from Carlisle East fire station rescued a baby seagull from the roof of their own station yesterday (22 July).
A spokesperson said:
"We noticed a baby seagull trapped inside the anti-bird netting on the roof, which had grown so large it couldn’t get out, but it’s mother had kept on feeding it.
"The scene was reminiscent of the pterodactyl enclosure in Jurassic Park.
"The crew braved the swooping parents, and biting youngster and managed to gather it into a box, and release it into a place of safety.
"We are happy to report that the birds mother has returned, and has been able to have physical contact with the youngster for the first time it what has presumably been a while. It brought a tear to our eyes.
"He has affectionately been christened Steven Seagull."
