A male has now been arrested this morning (11 July) after making threats to staff in a Carlisle store.
A spokesperson from the Carlisle Business Crime Reduction Partnership said:
"The male told stores staff he had a gun in his possession and was reported to be heavily under the influence, staff passed this information to the stores security and was then quickly restrained onto the floor by members of the partnerships security team, armed police were quickly on scene and arrested the male, no gun was found on his person, but they had to treat this kind of allegation robustly to protect staff and their customers, the store was full of shoppers and children at the time.
"I would like to thank the partnership team who dealt with this incident putting themselves into what could have been a very serious incident to protect others and the very quick response of Carlisle’s armed police.
"The male has now been arrested and there is no risk to life.
