A monumental team effort over the past couple of weeks has so far seen 1,200 bags of food being packed up ready for the North Lakes Foodbanks 'Summer Foodpacks - A Helping Hand' scheme.
Thousands of tins, jars, packets and cartons stacked high in crates have made their way into individual food bags for families in need.
A spokesperson from the North Lakes Foodbank said:
"There have been six packing sessions so far, with our amazing volunteers pulling off a superhuman feat to pack 200 bags in each session.
"Next week, two more sessions will see 400 more bags being packed, with all 1,600 bags being distributed to the various centres across Allerdale and Copeland ready for people to collect from the week commencing 20th July.
"Over the summer, an estimated 600-700 children in need will receive these parcels, something which wouldn’t have been possible without the hard work and dedication of our foodbank volunteers.
"As well as receiving funding from Allerdale Borough Council for the Summer Foodpacks scheme, the council’s staff and councillors also came along to help pack the food bags.
"Food packs for Copeland are being completed with the help of foodbank volunteers and St Bridget’s church members.
"A huge THANK YOU goes out to all those who gave their time so generously to help make the scheme happen."
