At approximately 11.30am appliances from Carlisle East and Carlisle West, attended a property fire involving a tumble dryer at Wetheral Shields.
A spokesperson from Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service said:
"The fire was confined to the kitchen and crews used two breathing apparatus, a hosereel, and small tools.
"Great work from the householder closing the internal doors meant that the fire involved the kitchen, instead of the whole house."
Here's some safety tips:
• Clean out the lint filter after every use.
• Look for scorching or burn marks, check for loose or worn wires.
• Never overload – take large or bulky items such as duvets to the dry-cleaners.
• Always allow each drying programme, including the "cool down cycle”, to complete fully.
• Don't tumble dry clothes contaminated with solvents, grease, oils or fats.
