Bethany House in Whitehaven had remained clear of Covid-19, until recently. However reporting in the local press has not been entirely accurate.
A spokesperson from Bethany House Group said:
"The situation within Bethany House is under control and whilst coronavirus is serious in any residential home, we are not in crisis.
"The team is managing very well with guidance and support from the Director (Joy Ditchburn) who has over 40 years experience in nursing and 34 years of owning and running Bethany House.
"Katie (Chisholm) has in fact moved into the home, but this is down to her own dedication to the residents within the home and we as Directors fully support this decision of her going above and beyond in her role.
"The numbers of those affected quoted by the Whitehaven News have been exaggerated and not all residents in the home have Covid-19.
"Out of the eighteen residents who live with us at Bethany House, four of them are Covid-19 free, two of these are still living in Bethany House and two of these are in West Cumberland Hospital due to unrelated issues. The fourteen that do have the virus are responding well to the treatment.
"Finally they stated that Bethany House has had one death due to Covid-19. This is incorrect, the resident unfortunately passed away due to natural causes.
"We would like to thank all of our team members in both homes, for their dedication and commitment to the residents they look after and we thank them from the bottom of our hearts.
