Kirkby Stephen Mountain Rescue Team were called late on the evening of 24th June to search for a gentleman who had been reported overdue from a walk in the Howgill Fells.
A spokesperson said:
"Search parties were deployed throughout the area, and a Coastguard helicopter assisted using their FLIR camera and search lights.
"In the early hours of 25th June, five search dogs and their handlers from the Lake District Mountain Rescue Search Dogs joined the effort, along with members from both Kendal and Penrith Mountain Rescue Teams.
"Sadly, the body of the missing man was found later in the morning by one of the search dog handlers.
"We would like to offer our sincere condolences to the man's family, loved ones and friends.
"Our thanks go to Kendal and Penrith Mountain Rescue Teams, the LDMRSD, HM Coastguard, with crews from both Humberside and Prestwick involved in the search and recovery, and RAF Mountain Rescue who were in the process of deploying when the discovery was made."
