Volunteers from both Barrow Lifeboat and Furness Coastguard were tasked at 0126 this morning to reports of a male stuck on a vessel after his kayak had drifted away.
A spokesperson from Furness Coastguard said:
"A call had come in that the tender used (kayak) for the vessel had become detached and drifted away, stranding the individual.
"Barrow's ILB brought the person back to Ferry Pitchings who met up with some of the team whilst the rest of the team searched for the missing kayak.
"Please keep a sharp lookout if you are intending to use the channel and waters, as the purple kayak is still missing and presumed still in the channel.
