Emergency services were alerted to a large fire last night (30 May) at the former Fusion nightclub building on Ladies Walk, Workington. One man was rescued from the blazing building.
Nearby premises and homes on Ladies Walk and Coopers Walk were evacuated whilst crews from Cumbria Fire & Rescue Service tackled the fire.
Appliances and aerial ladder platforms from across the county were in attendance. At the height of the fire, nine appliances were in attendance.
A spokesperson from Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service said:
"Nine fire appliances (including Workington x2 Whitehaven x2 , Wigton, Penrith and Carlisle) and an aerial ladder platform were involved.
"Approximately 50 firefighters were deployed.
"The blaze is now under control, however the crews will be detained for some time to dampen down.
"Lots of hard work prevented the serious blaze from spreading to adjoining properties.
"Fire service personnel in attendance approximately fifteen hours."
