Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service launch recruitment drive for wholetime and apprentice firefighters

Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service (CFRS) is launching a recruitment drive for wholetime (full-time) and apprentice firefighters.

Applications will open online at 10am on Monday 4 May and close at 10am on Thursday 14 May.
CFRS is seeking to recruit up to 12 new wholetime and four apprentice firefighters who will undergo an intensive training programme and then start their careers by joining crews throughout Cumbria.

The recruitment campaign #BeInspired celebrates the modern day firefighter and highlights the key role they play in their community, challenging outdated stereotypes and myths.
Applications are welcomed from everyone, especially from female candidates, black and minority ethnic groups and the LGBT+ community are particularly encouraged as the service recognises these are groups of society that are currently under-represented within the Service.
With much of the role focused on education, prevention and training work, the Service wants to attract applications from people who really want to make a difference in their communities.

Station Manager Tony Paterson said: “Being a firefighter is a fantastic job. It’s not just about attending incidents, our teams also carry out fire safety, engagement and prevention work in their local communities. Our firefighters come from different backgrounds and the Be Inspired campaign is focused on challenging the stereotype and changing people’s perception of what makes an ideal firefighter.”

Steve Healey, Cumbria County Council’s Chief Fire Officer, said: “Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service offers an exciting and rewarding career, and we’d like as many people as possible to come forward and help us find the very best new recruits.”

Cllr Janet Willis, Cumbria County Council Cabinet member for Fire and Rescue, said: “Our firefighters do a terrific job keeping our communities safe and secure. It’s an ever changing, exciting and challenging role, where you can make a real difference to your community.”
