Rosie Cole from Cockermouth was among 100 people who took part in the Dorset Knob Eating Contest today (10th May).
The contest requires competitors to devour as many Knobs as possible in one minute. Rosie managed three, and said afterwards: "I feel a bit sick."
The contest is part of the Dorset Knob Festival, which is organised by Dorset Tea, and had to take place online after the coronavirus pandemic made a physical event impossible.
A Dorset Knob is a hard dry savoury biscuit. They are made from bread dough which contains extra sugar and butter. They are rolled and shaped by hand. They are baked three times. Once cooked, they are very crumbly and rather like very dry stale bread or rusks in consistency.
Before the competition started, chairman Ian Gregory warned that the bun-shaped confections were "quite dry" and, "the world record stands at 13 or 14 – that was a momentous performance in 2015."
The Knob Noshing Champion of 2020 was declared as Kate Scott. Kate managed to eat 8.5 Knobs. A spokesperson from Dorset Tea said to Kate: "Congratulations on your fine performance, you are a true knob gobbler!
