Residents aim for secure employment

SHARE:

Unemployed residents in Copeland are ready for the world of work after successfully completing training with the Copeland Work and Skills Partnership.

The six-week work academy prepared candidates for security roles with CRS Facility Management. Four candidates are now hoping to take up roles as Safeguarding Officers or Cover Support Officers.

The training focused on pre-employment skills and practical work experience, and was jointly delivered by Copeland Work and Skills Partners.

Customer service and team building training was delivered by Lakes College; emergency first aid by Better Bodies; CV writing and DBS application support by Phoenix Enterprise Centre; and personal budgeting by Copeland Citizens Advice Bureau. Security Industry Authority training was organised by Inspira and supported through The Key Programme.

Candidates were referred to the programme by the Department of Work and Pensions.

The work academy programme was completed safely, following government guidlines on COVID – 19. Work for the security sector has increased as a result of the Coronarvirus outbreak, so being able to fill these roles has been critical.

Copeland Borough Council and its partners are also delivering an academy programme preparing local unemployed people for the leisure industry.

Sector-based work academies are part of a programme of activities being delivered by Copeland Work and Skills Partnership until August 2022. Copeland Community Fund and Sellafield Ltd are jointly funding the programme.

Any businesses with vacancies who would like support with recruitment and are interested in being involved in a sector-based work academy should contact Copeland Council’s Work and Skills officer, Chris Pickles, on 01946 598326 or at [email protected]
