West Cumbria Hospice At Home have received a donation to their Emergency Appeal of £30,000 from the Mahone family of Cleator Moor, in memory of their loved one Joanne Mahone.
Joanne’s family, friends, colleagues and local community committed themselves to raising money to try and get treatment for Joanne, but after a short fight, and support from Hospice at Home West Cumbria nurses, Joanne passed away.
The family would like to thank everybody who supported them and would also like to dedicate the donation in memory of friends who also lost their fight, Carly McCarron and Cheryl Clark.
Joanne’s husband Martin said:
“Last year, my darling wife Joanne passed away after a short fight against a very aggressive Sarcoma cancer. Jo was in extreme pain for the four months since she was diagnosed with this evil disease.
"The Hospice at Home nurses, and in particular nurse Nora, were so helpful and caring in Jo’s final days with us. The marvellous community we live in committed to fundraising to try and get treatment to save Jo. Unfortunately, this was impossible.
"I saw the plight of Hospice at Home and their plea on Facebook recently and spoke to the fund trustees. They were in total agreement to donate some of the funding to such a fantastic local organisation like Hospice at Home West Cumbria”.
A spokesperson from Hospice at Home said:
"From all at Hospice at Home West Cumbria, thank you so much for this amazing donation. It will make a huge difference to ensuring other families can get the support from our wonderful nurses during their most difficult times."
