Religious worship is a victim of Coronavirus

SHARE:

Churches and other religious institutions across the land are ceasing worship in the struggle against the Coronavirus Pandemic.

Father Paul from St Mary's Church in Cleator said:

"We have received directions from the Bishops of England and Wales concerning the current pandemic - depressing but also encouraging!

'The Lord is my shepherd, there is nothing I shall want.'

"We must not gather for public acts of worship in our churches from Friday 20th March.

"Our churches will remain open. They will be a focal point of prayer.

"Priests will continue to say mass on Sundays and during the week - without a public congregation. (We hope to be able to live stream these masses via our Facebook page - and other live streamed masses should become available. There are also Catholic Channels available on Satellite television).

"Parishioners are asked to join in spiritually, knowing these masses are taking place; joining a live stream where possible; following prayers; making a spiritual communion (copies available at the back of church).

"As long as the emergency circumstances last the obligation to attend mass on Sundays and Holy Days is removed.
More details can be found on the Bishops' Conference website www.cbcew.org.uk

"A vital aspect of these disturbing times is our care for each other. There are many ways in which we can do this.

"Volunteering where possible and keeping in touch with the elderly and vulnerable.

'The effort of daily kindness and support will continue and increase. Please play your part in this'.

"Resources for prayer etc will be found at the back of church. St Mary's will be open through the day. St Joseph's will be open between 10.00am and 12.00 noon each day.

"There will be more information to come out over the days and weeks. I am very aware that many in our parish are not confident in digital matters - anything you can do to help them will be very valuable!

"All shall be well."
