Council supports Community Emergency Response Group with funding

The Mayor of Workington, Cllr Janet King, welcomed The Workington Community Emergency Response Group to the Town Hall, Workington, on Wednesday 26th February for a cheque presentation.

Members of the group enjoyed tea and cake with the Mayor, before being handed a cheque for £300.

The Workington Community Emergency Response Group applied to the Council’s community service grant to cover costs for their annual insurance. The main objective of the group is to maintain a community emergency plan for Workington and act as the point of contact for the emergency services if the plan needs to be activated, for example if there was flooding in the area.

The group are also responsible for ensuring personnel are adequately trained and the plans are tried and tested to ensure efficiency in the event of any emergency.

A spokesperson for the Town Council said, "we are delighted to be able to offer funding to such an invaluable service in our Town".

Community Service Grants are small grants (for up to £300), aimed at any voluntary or community group in Workington.

They are intended for small projects or as initial funding for larger grant applications to other bodies.  For more information and to apply for a grant please visit
