Over £14,000 donated to Hospice at Home

SHARE:

Hospice at Home West Cumbria is thrilled to have recently received funding of £14,428 from the Postcode Community Trust, a grant-giving charity funded entirely by players of the People’s Postcode Lottery.

The generous grant will help fund community-based complementary therapies across our region given by Hospice at Home West Cumbria’s Senior Complementary Therapist, Claire Jenkinson.

Highly experienced, Claire has been with Hospice at Home West Cumbria for seven years and has recently been awarded the Diploma in Adapting Complementary Therapies for Cancer and Supportive Care from The Christie in Manchester.

Claire is a member of the charity’s Family & Bereavement Support team, and her work involves travelling across West Cumbria and visiting palliative patients in their homes, nursing homes and the Loweswater Suite at West Cumberland Hospital.

Claire says “We are so grateful for this wonderful grant to support our complementary therapy work, which are an essential aspect of our services – it really will make such a difference to the people we care for. Specialist complementary therapies can help patients cope with some of the physical symptoms and side effects that they may face such as pain, nausea, fatigue and breathlessness, as well as alleviating anxiety and tension, promoting improved sleep and ability to cope.”

Last year Hospice at Home West Cumbria’s complementary therapists gave 569 treatments to local people with a life limiting condition and their loved ones.

Hospice at Home West Cumbria is the only hospice in the region and the only charity providing palliative and end of life home nursing care. They support hundreds of patients and family members every year and cover 400 square miles, from Maryport to Millom and the Buttermere and Wasdale valleys.
