Emergency services were alerted this morning at 03.00am to reports of a female in the water at Jubilee Bridge, Walney Channel.
A joint operation was launched comprising firefighters from Barrow, Ulverston and Kendal. They were working alongside Furness Coastguard, RNLI, NWAS and Barrow Police.
A spokesperson said:
"The initial reports were that the female had entered the water near the base of the bridge. The team set up a forward command post with Cumbria Police, Cumbria Fire & Rescue Service and North West Ambulance Service.
"A plan was formulated of search areas using local knowledge from our team of tides, flows and snagging areas.
"The team tasked Barrow Lifeboat to commence a sweeping search of the channel whilst the teams commenced searching and setting off pyrotechnic flares to illuminate Walney channel.
"We can confirm that the lady was successfully found and rescued not long after, suffering from hypothermia and passed over to the care of the Ambulance Service.
"A very positive outcome to what was almost a tragedy in our waters. Another great example of multi-agency work.
