Distington Amateur Rugby League Football Club and Community Amateur Sports Club have secured funding to build a modern facility to help attract new users to the club.
A spokesperson said:
"We are pleased to announce that we have successfully secured the funding required to refurbish the CASC in to a modern standard facility that the community will be proud of.
"The committee have secured an incredible amount of funding from Copeland Community Fund, Distington Big Local, Cumbria Community Foundation, The Potato Pot Community Fund, Sellafield Limited, OneAim and the Parish Council.
"The work commenced this week with the major building work beginning on the 3rd February.
"The lounge will be closed when the building work starts but the bar will remain open.
"On completion of the work we hope to attract new user groups to the CASC and improve all standards to fall in line with the upgrade and modernisation.
