Learners studying the Nurse Cadets programme at Lakes College surprised NHS staff at Cockermouth Community Hospital and West Cumberland Hospital with festive Christmas hampers.
The Nurse Cadets held a cake sale at the college to raise the money needed to buy the goods for the hampers. They sold a whole host of delicious homemade goodies including flapjack, brownies, cupcakes, cinnamon swirls and gingerbread. The learners raised a total of £180 from the stall which was then split and spent on the gifts.
The hampers contained a mixture of practical and confectionery items such as chocolates, stationery, bath bombs, coffee, sprays and makeup.
The Nurse Cadets delivered the hampers to the Isel Ward at Cockermouth Cottage Hospital, and the Radiology Department at the West Cumberland Hospital.
Anya Smith, Level 3 Nurse Cadets learner commented, “The money we raised from our cake sale was split between the class, and we were each given an object to buy for the hampers. The nurses in the Isel Ward and Radiology Department work extremely hard to keep the hospitals moving and we just wanted to give them a small thank you present as a token of appreciation.”
Sonya Hyde, Nurse Cadets Course Leader commented, “Every year our learners put a lot of hard work into preparing the hampers for NHS staff, and we are so proud of them for their efforts. We would like to thank all of the hospital staff for the hard work that they do.”
