Cumbria Police have been increasing stop checks on vehicles in order to tackle drink and drug driving during the Christmas period.
A spokesperson said: "Unfortunately we often see a rise in such offences during the Christmas festive period. So far we have arrested numerous persons in Copeland for being unfit through drink or drugs. We have also arrested for the offence of failing to provide a sample which will carry the same sanction (driving ban) as the main offence."
"Please ensure that you are careful when having a Christmas drink so that you don’t inadvertently drink and drive."
Early this morning, Police were stopping cars passing through Egremont. The spokesperson affirmed:
"We are very pleased to report that every driver tested provided a zero reading."
