Emergency services attended Whitehaven Harbour last night following reports of a person in the water.
A male casualty was rescued from the water by officers from Cumbria Police and handed over to the North West Ambulance Service. A spokesperson said, "they were wet, but otherwise OK."
Whitehaven man, Liam McKinney said, "It was me that called the police, ambulance and Coastguard. We couldn't get him out."
Andrew Pickering, also from Whitehaven, said, "Luckily I heard him go in. It could have been a different story."
