Whitehaven Coastguard Team were tasked in the early hours by CGOC Belfast Coastguard to an incident on Whitehaven Harbour.
A spokesperson from the Coastguard said:
"Cumbria Police were in attendance along with North West Ambulance Service, St Bees RNLI, Maryport Coastguard Rescue Team and Cumbria Fire & Rescue Service.
"Reports suggested that someone was possibly in the water at Whitehaven harbour.
"It quickly became apparent that nobody was in the water at that time, but team's deployed just in case the situation changed. Happily all assets were soon stood down when the situation was resolved successfully."
In an emergency at sea or on the coast ring 999 and ask for the Coastguard.
