Libraries across Allerdale helping to Wrap Up Cumbria this winter

SHARE:

Wrap Up Cumbria is run by local Rotary Clubs in partnership with the registered charity, Hands On London.  The campaign seeks donations of coats and jackets to help keep vulnerable, isolated and homeless people in Cumbria warm during the winter months.

Cumbria County Council’s libraries in Aspatria, Keswick, Maryport, Moor Close, Seaton, Silloth, Wigton and Workington now have collection points for coats and jackets.

All items donated to Wrap Up Cumbria go directly to people across Cumbria who struggle to keep warm during the winter months. The coats are distributed via homeless shelters, refugee centres, women’s refuges, children’s centres, organisations helping the elderly and other charities supporting people in crisis.

Coats and jackets of all weights are acceptable - however heavy duty coats that are weather resistant and waterproof are the most sought after and useful.

The Wrap Up campaigns in Cumbria are delivered by a team of volunteers through local Rotary Clubs, and they are currently unable to accept anything other than coats and jackets. If you have other clothes or items that you would like to donate to a good cause, please visit www.droppoint.org - to find a network of charitable organisations looking for a variety of items.

Cllr Deborah Earl, Cumbria County Council’s Cabinet Member for Local Communities, said:

“I’m pleased that libraries across Allerdale are supporting this campaign, helping some of the vulnerable and homeless people in our communities to stay warmer this winter. I’d urge anyone that may have a spare or unused heavy jacket to consider donating it to this very important cause.”

Several libraries across Allerdale are now collection points for a local campaign, Wrap Up Cumbria.
