Garden waste collections reach end of season

SHARE:

IT'S TIME for a last garden tidy - Copeland Council's green waste collection service concludes for the year on Friday November 15.

The collections will restart on March 16 2020.

Coun Steven Morgan, portfolio holder for Waste, said: "A couple of years ago we moved the garden waste collections further into autumn, after residents told us they needed to collect leaves and clippings until November.

"This has been well-received and people can plan a final cut or tidy now before the collections conclude for the year on November 15."

Cumbria County Council's Household Waste Recycling Centres in Frizington and Millom remain open during the winter months for residents who wish to dispose of garden waste. An environmentally-friendly option is to compost at home, and residents can buy discounted compost bins here: http://www.recycleforcumbria.org/inthegarden/default.asp and food digesters Here:  http://www.recycleforcumbria.org/athome/digester.asp

Coun Morgan added: "Many people also add to their garden bin over the winter - the material rots down to a smaller volume, meaning waste from over the winter stays in the bin and can be collected when the rounds start again in the spring.”

Residents can check when their waste and recycling collections are at www.copeland.gov.uk, by clicking on ‘My Property’ and ‘Bin Collections.’

People can also buy a second brown bin at a one-off cost of  £32, plus an annual charge of £37 for the additional collection throughout the season. This can be arranged by calling the council on 01946 598300 or emailing [email protected].
