Lakes College students’ brilliant baking skills raise £225 at Macmillan Coffee Morning

Lakes College students baked a variety of homemade treats and served them alongside teas and coffees to students, staff and members of the public to help raise money for charity as they hosted a Macmillan Coffee Morning on Friday.

The Transitions in Learning students got creative in the kitchen and baked a variety of different homemade refreshments including scones, cakes and tarts. Other items like customised planters and small variety bags were also handmade by the creative learners and sold to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Macmillan’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning events are held all over the UK and have raised over £200 million in total for the charity to date. They offer a great chance for people around the country to have a cuppa and a cake whilst supporting a great cause at their local fundraising event.

The students at Lakes College raised an incredible £225 for the charity and will be used to provide health care, financial support and information to those who are affected by cancer.

Diana Wilcock, a Transitions in Learning lecturer at the college, commented, “it was great to see our students work so hard as a team to raise money for such a great charity. Helping others is a huge part of our mantra here at the college and I was so happy to see them doing this and taking complete ownership of the cake sale. Well done everyone!”
